Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy explains how 1word collects, uses, stores, and shares information when you use the app, website pages, and support channels associated with 1word.
1. Information We Process
1word is designed to minimize personal data collection. Depending on how you use the app, the following categories of data may be processed:
- Learning progress and onboarding state stored locally on your device.
- Subscription and purchase status received from Apple and processed through RevenueCat.
- Technical identifiers or transaction-related metadata required to validate purchases and restore entitlements.
- Information you voluntarily send when contacting support, such as your email address and message content.
2. Information Stored on Your Device
The app stores certain data locally on your device, such as your app start date, onboarding completion state, and whether words are marked as learned or not learned. This local storage is used to make the app function properly and is not, by itself, shared with us from your device through the current app implementation.
3. Subscriptions and RevenueCat
If you purchase or restore a subscription, 1word uses RevenueCat as a service provider for subscription infrastructure. RevenueCat may process identifiers, entitlement status, transaction metadata, and device-related information required to validate purchases, detect billing issues, and maintain subscription access.
Apple handles payment processing for in-app purchases. We do not receive your full payment card details. Your purchase is governed by Apple’s App Store terms and privacy practices in addition to this Privacy Policy.
4. How We Use Information
We use information for the following purposes:
- To provide the core educational functionality of the app.
- To keep track of subscription status and premium entitlements.
- To respond to support requests and troubleshoot issues.
- To comply with legal obligations and enforce our terms.
5. Tracking, Advertising, and Data Sales
1word is not designed to sell your personal information. Based on the current implementation, the app does not include third-party advertising SDKs and is not built around cross-app tracking for targeted advertising. If this changes in a future release, this Privacy Policy will be updated before or at the time such practices are introduced.
6. Sharing of Information
We may share limited information with service providers only where needed to operate the app or comply with law. This includes Apple for App Store purchases and RevenueCat for subscription management. We may also disclose information if required by law, legal process, or to protect rights, safety, and security.
7. Data Retention
Local app data remains on your device until you delete the app or clear the relevant device data. Support emails may be retained for as long as reasonably necessary to respond, resolve disputes, maintain records, or meet legal obligations. Subscription-related records may be retained by Apple and RevenueCat according to their own retention practices and legal requirements.
8. International Processing
Service providers such as Apple and RevenueCat may process information in countries other than your own. Where applicable, such processing is subject to contractual, technical, and organizational safeguards required by law.
9. Your Rights
Depending on your location, you may have rights to request access to, correction of, deletion of, or restriction of certain personal data. Because much of 1word’s data is stored locally on your device or processed by platform providers, some requests may need to be exercised directly through your device settings, Apple account, or the relevant service provider.
10. Children’s Privacy
1word is not directed to children under the age at which parental consent is required in the relevant jurisdiction. If you believe a child has provided personal information in violation of applicable law, contact us and we will review the request.
11. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect product changes, legal requirements, or operational needs. The updated version will be posted with a revised “Last updated” date.
